It has been said that you only get as much out of a membership as you put into it. Volunteering with the Virginia Public Health Association, either on a standing committee, the Board of Directors, or for a task force, is a great way for you to get more from your membership – meet more members to expand your professional network, hone your leadership skills, improve public health in Virginia and help VAPHA all at the same time.
There are several areas where your skills and enthusiasm could be put to good use:
Communications Committee
This committee works with the administrator to market VAPHA to the general public through press releases and other means, working to develop a consistent message for the organization. The committee will also assist the administrator with reviewing the web site to assure that the content is up to date, and may explore options for VAPHA to make use of social media.
Conference Committee
This committee oversees the development of all VAPHA programs. We are currently in the midst of developing several subcommittees to focus on specific program areas: Annual Meeting; Continuing Education Credits; Veterans’/Military Public Health Conference; Webinar Series. Volunteer for one of the specific program areas, or for the overall conference committee.
Membership Committee
This committee is responsible for working with the VAPHA administrator to recruit new members and retain existing members, as well as exploring options to add value to VAPHA membership.
Policy Committee
The VAPHA Policy Committee will work to inform our members, policy makers and the general public of the facts surrounding public health policy in anon-partisan way, working to assure that VAPHA continues to connect all of the voices of public health in Virginia.
